The Tristeza Tapes

The Tristeza Tapes

The Tristeza Tapes, Spanish for sadness and grief, are a collection of three cassette tapes that explore impermanence, nostalgia, and the human condition through methods of music packaging, sound, and writing. Together, the tapes create a unique audio visual experience for the viewer.

The packaging itself showcases crumbling, glacial illustrations that represent decay as a metaphor for a spectrum of lost and fleeting relationships over time. The present images are collaged with distorted, personal writings, which relate to the content on the tapes themselves. This series of recorded tapes contain soundscapes, conversations, and intimate poems dealing with the related subjects.
